dan halloway 02:28
dan halloway way down in the hollow where the sun never shines there's a people living in darkness most of their lives the night dreams and the terrors live inside their minds trading safety for the gun and the truth for the lie where the rain and the lightning run swift thru the trees and the changes in the weather are swifter indeed with a world that might end you think that it might and the death that you have won't be one that you like with a world that's gone crazy its easy to see the war between brothers is desperate indeed so you pray to your god for the mantle of change to scatter the darkness for all further days way down in the hollow where the sun never shines there's a people living in darkness most of their lives you pray to your god for the mantle of change to scatter the darkness for all further days

i picked this grape for you dear washed off it's skin soft and clear. eat it right now if you please dear or save it forever, or throw it away i don't really mind. i picked this grape for you. i share my lovin no i don't hide it away i share it with that someone each and every day won't you look at me now see me share it with you i do believe we are here because of this life under the sun dear tell me do you believe in life under the sun?

there must be some kind of way out of here, that's what the joker said to the thief. there's just too much confusion and i can't get no relief business men drink my wine. proud bankers dig my earth. and it's the most of them who think that life is nothing but a worth. but you and i we've been thru that and this is not our fate. let silence not speak softly now, the hour is getting late. they fall along the watch tower. the lions are approaching, they're shuffling in bed dreaming of lives they no longer have and they fall along the watchtower

you don't know what you really want and you don't know what you really need but you keep a heart that's strong and bold because these stories you do believe in; that you can take what you want. and you can take what you find. that there is a price that we pay. that we all cross that line. you've been thinking about your role here as you've been walking on the road. and you've been building castles made of heaven for all the people. and when that sea rushes in every night with the tide. do those castles that you made wash away?

van is packed and you're ready to go that you are loved this much you know and though you're crying remember that you ain't dying. no you're just learning how to live. and this is not the wrong road to heaven we always do what we have to do and i love how my doing involves you girl and when that sun turns and another day finds me half a country away I thank god for his phone that i hold. and tho i'm glad that you like me to call you i'd be satisfied thorwing this phone away all the things it brings us today brings me closer to home. this is not the wrong road to heaven. paint a picture of a summer day laying quiet in the soothing rain all the stories that we have been told beckon us to a world we should hold on to but looking back it's this sorrow that paints our tomorrows yeah what we might miss today is missing me still here loving you i don't see no regrets. this is not the wrong road to heaven.

you know i don't have too much money you know i don't have too much fame you know if you treat me wrong darling i won't be doing the same that's my way, that's how i am i take my good time when i go out walking i take my time in the rain i take my time because i love it dear i hope you're doing the same we can take it to the task if that's what you want to do or we can live our lives by way of showing it the questions about life is how we want them to be the answers for me and you that's what we're going to see. if you leave on your light tonight honey you can greet me at your door we'll drink to all the worried minds that can not drink no more and we'll laugh at the day because that's how we want it

W 02:36
yeah i got a song to sing and i got a place to be and i don't need no promise of heaven to sing about it to you and i got a tribe that wants to be right there with you but it can't get up all them thieves done drunk the energy from their blood now if you would just try to see the role that you play in this world how everything you do relates to everything that you see. and if you'd sit down at the table with me why do you run away? strip down your walls feel your pain it takes patience to understand freedom yeah t's hard understanding freedom when you understand freedom i bet you won't steal freedom from me
9.
are we already asleep and there's nothing here but the dream, or do we travel at the light of day? is it such a fine story that we don't want to give it up, or should we tear right thru it? paths of glory i don't believe what's right is true you've got to recieve take a story by the ends and pick it up is there something here we haven't heard? don't we agree line for line? don't we feel burned? aren't we fed up with the cycle that never seems to end? extend your role like you're extending some kindness shoulder your load with grace and midas might touch his gold upon your fairest hand on the devil's road, there walks a blinded angel.

this feeling i've got inside i ain't got no shameful eyes to hide no one can hold me from the love that i feel inside no one can chain me to this earth.

about

Essencial P was recorded in Weaverville, North Carolina in February of 2005. Jason Dilg and myself played live as a duo in the livingroom with a vaulted ceiling overhead. After all the tracks were done, we both returned with different instruments in hand to complete the band sound of the collection.

I played guitar and contra bass, Jason played banjo, tenor guitar and fiddle. Jessica Johnson sang with me on Dan Halloway and Ass Rider. Dave Muhlenthaler played fiddle with us live on Happy Man.

Cover art and Graphics by Gabi Swiatkowska.
